Certified Research Mediums (WCRMs) to the Windbridge Institute
research family:
*
Tracy Lee Nash
* Traci Bray
* Ankhasha Amenti
* Troy Parkinson
* Renata Santorelli
* Marisa Ryan
* Kim Russo
The
certification of these WCRMs involved eight thorough screening,
testing, and training steps during which their abilities to
report accurate and specific information about the deceased
was scientifically tested under blinded conditions by Windbridge
Institute Director of Research Julie Beischel, PhD.
WCRMs
are a distinctive and elite group of scientifically-minded,
ethical, professional, and gifted mediums. They are open and
honest, ethical and responsible, humble and gracious, and
compassionate and respectful. WCRMs follow a specific code

Institute researchers present studies at SSE meeting
SSE at
the Forefront of Science:
30th Annual Meeting of the Society for Scientific Exploration
(SSE)
June 9 - 11, 2011
Boulder, Colorado, USA
At
the 2011 Annual Meeting of the Society for Scientific Exploration
(SSE), Institute researchers presented the following:
Beischel,
J., Biuso, M., Boccuzzi, M., & Rock, A. (2011, June).
Anomalous information reception by research mediums under
quintuple-blind conditions: Can the mind exist without the
body? 30th Annual Meeting of the Society for Scientific
Exploration, Boulder, Colorado.
Project
Description: This study collects evidence during quintuple-blinded
readings regarding Windbridge Certified Research Mediums'
reception and reporting of accurate and specific information
about discarnates in the absence of any feedback; without
prior knowledge about the discarnates (beyond their first
names) or about the living sitters associated with them;
and without using deception, fraud, or cold-reading. It
is an extension of a previously published study involving
claimant mediums and triple-blind readings.
Boccuzzi,
M. (2011, June). Three methods for examining experimenter
effects in investigations of psychokinesis. 30th Annual
Meeting of the Society for Scientific Exploration, Boulder,
Colorado.
Project
Description: When designing experimental methodologies
and analyzing study results, it is important to keep in mind
the potential impact of the experimenter's consciousness.
These effects may result from conscious intention or subconscious
desire (the latter of which may oppose the former). This study
aims to explore the methods and outcomes from different experiments
varying in experimenter belief, desire, and intention.

Dr.
Beischel speaking at the Parapsychology and Consciousness
Conference
Parapsychology
and Consciousness Conference
October 14-16, 2011
Virginia Beach, VA
The
Best in Parapsychology: From our Minds to Yours
Beischel,
J. (2011, October). Modern mediumship research: Experiments,
experiences, and explanations. Parapsychology and Consciousness:
First Annual Atlantic University Conference, Virginia
Beach, Virginia.
Abstract. One of the main research methods used
to address the survival of consciousness hypothesis involves
studying mediums---individuals who report experiencing
regular communication with the deceased. At the Windbridge
Institute, current studies involve research mediums whose
abilities to report accurate and specific information
have been demonstrated under blinded laboratory conditions
which control for all traditional, local, and sensory
explanations for the accuracy of their statements. These
Windbridge Certified Research Mediums (WCRMs) answer specific
questions about discarnates during readings performed
under quintuple-blind conditions which involve the blinding
of the mediums, the raters, and three experimenters interacting
with the participants during various stages of the study.
The resulting data demonstrate that these mediums can
indeed report accurate and specific information about
the deceased loved ones (termed discarnates) of living
people (termed sitters) without any prior knowledge about
the sitters or the discarnates, without using fraud or
deception, and in the absence of any feedback. In addition,
their experiences during ostensible communication are
studied using both qualitative and quantitative phenomenological
research methods which provide a novel approach to addressing
historical questions about the source of mediums' information.
The social, cultural, religious, and political environments
in which these mediums perform readings in addition to
their actual phenomenology during communication are quite
different than those of the mediums studied in the early
days of psychical research. The data collected from these
current research participants will aid in reframing concepts
such as 'consciousness' and may be socially relevant in
areas such as criminal investigations, wisdom acquisition,
and grief counseling and recovery.

New
Life After Death Grant from the Helene Reeder Memorial Fund
Windbridge
Institute co-founder and researcher Mark Boccuzzi was awarded
a research grant from the Helene Reeder Memorial Fund for
Research into Life after Death for his study on the use
of electronic equipment to facilitate possible interactions
with discarnates. This project is an outgrowth of research
he has been conducting during field investigations of allegedly
haunted locations since 1999 and we are excited to have
the financial support required to address this subject in
a thorough and meaningful way.
As part
of the expert opinion included with the grant application,
Windbridge Institute Scientific Advisory
Board member Dean Radin, PhD, stated "This project
brings the haphazard field study approach into the laboratory,
making it possible, at least hypothetically, to test under
controlled conditions whether a discarnate can indeed intentionally
interact with equipment."

New
Book: The Truth About Grief
Reviewed by Julie Beischel, PhD
I recently
finished a fascinating new book on the topic of grief, the focus
of one of the main research programs at the Windbridge Institute.
The
Truth About Grief: The Myth of its Five Stages and the New Science
of Loss by Ruth Davis Konigsberg is a quick read that really
opened my eyes to numerous aspects of this topic including:
the bereavement and grief counseling "industries,"
grief memoirs, the grief culture, grief commercialism, how members
of other cultures grieve, and grief related to the events of
September 11th. The author states, "With this book I hope
to offer you a means of escape from our habitual ways of thinking
about grief" (p. 197).
Read my
entire review on my blog
or buy The
Truth About Grief today. (Note: We receive a small portion
of the price of books purchased through our bookstore which
goes to supporting research.)

Windbridge
Institute receives new Research Grants from the Bial Foundation
We
are very excited to announce that we have been awarded two
new research grants from the Bial Foundation in Portugal.
One study, titled "Somatic Psi vs. Survival Psi: A
Quantitative Investigation of Mediums' Phenomenology comparing
Psychic Readings and Ostensible Communication with the Deceased,"
will take place at the Windbridge Institute in 2011 and 2012.
The second project is a collaborative one titled "Cortical
and Autonomic Responses associated with Accurate Intuition"
in which we will be working with researchers from the Institute
of Noetic Sciences (IONS) and the University of California,
San Diego (UCSD).
This is the second time that we have received funding from
the Bial Foundation and we could not be more grateful!
The
funding provided by these projects covers about half of the
yearly operating costs of the Windbridge Institute. We depend
on other grants, memberships,
and private
contributions to cover the remainder of our expenses.

More
than 600 volunteers have completed the on-line sitter prescreening
form
Thank
you!
Within
a few days of Windbridge announcing that we were seeking volunteers
to act as sitters and receive and score mediumship readings
as part of our on-going research about life after death and
the abilities of mediums, more than 600 volunteers had completed
the on-line sitter prescreening
questionnaire!
From
the on-line questionnaire text:
"All
responses are placed in a sitter pool and research sitters are
chosen at random for each study to prevent experimenter bias
and to maximize research medium and experimenter blinding. Therefore,
it is not possible for Windbridge to tell a sitter if or when
s/he will be chosen for a study."
The on-line prescreening questionnaire and additional questionnaires
may be used to determine if a sitter is qualified to participate
in a specific experiment.

New
book by Windbridge researcher Adam Rock, PhD:
Constructivism and Shamanic Experiences
In
addition to his work at Windbridge studying the phenomenology
(or experiences) of mediums, Adam Rock, PhD, performs research
on a variety of topics at Deakin University in Australia.
Dr. Rock's new book, Constructivism and Shamanic Experiences:
A Psychological Study, describes his research of induced
shamanic journeying in naïve participants.

(Click
on cover image for more info or to order!)
The
book's publisher states: "Shamans are individuals whose
souls purportedly journey to other realms in order to serve
their community. A great deal of controversy surrounds the
issue of whether the content of journeying experiences is
simply an exteriorization of the shamans cultural cosmology
or referentially linked to entities that exist independently
of the shamans mind and body. Constructivism
and Shamanic Experiences: A Psychological Study is
an empirical exploration of the antecedents, epistemology
and origins of visual mental imagery associated with journeying.
The author describes a series of experiments designed to investigate
whether naive participants (i.e., individuals devoid of a
shamanic cosmological framework) are capable of experiencing
ostensibly shamanic journeying imagery. A modified hypnoanalytic
technique is also presented in an attempt to uncover the origins
of this imagery. This book would be useful to humanistic and
transpersonal psychologists, anthropologists and philosophers
of religion."
